ArcticKick – kicksledding weekend in Rovaniemi, Lapland, 25-27 January 2008

ArcticKick introduces you to the fun sport of kicksledding regardless of age and physical condition. It is a weekend full of kicksledding in the capital of Finnish Lapland near the Arctic Circle.

Dating back to the 1900s, kicksled used to be an everyday means of transportation on the icy winter roads of Finland. Some may still consider it a vehicle for grannies. However, the wooden "granny" kicksled has turned into trendy Kickspark taking the sport to a new millennium.

Excursions

On Friday night you’ll get to experience the beauty of the darkest period of the year on an excurions on the Ounasjoki River. If you are lucky, you’ll be accompanied by the Nothern lights.

The day trips on Saturday and Sunday will take you to wintry forest trails near the city center yet almost in the wilderness.

Competitions

Who will be the kicksledding king and queen of Lapland? The challenging 5 km track of the Ounasvaara skiing centre will take the sweat out even from the tougest kickers.

Dog drawn kicksleds are a peculiarity even in Finnish terms. Can you imagine the speed?

How about getting together with some friends for the relay?

By participating in the excursions and competitions you'll have a chance to win a brand new Kickspark kicksled!

Lectures

On Friday Hannu Vierikko, the ”grand old man” and world champion of kicksled will tell about the benefits of the sport at the Santasport sports center.

Afterkick won't be forgotten..

The official afterkick place will be Kauppayhtiö, as innovative a coffee shop as is the modern kicksled itself.

Come and enjoy the fun of kicksledding with your (four-footed) friends!

See you in Rovaniemi!
